Cookbook Reviews

I've been writing cookbook reviews in the print media since the early 1990s. I started this cookbook review page on a free site in 1996. I'm slowly trying to move everything here to www.patsyterrell.com. Frankly, I'm not sure what to do at this point because tons of sites are linked to the old geocities site. Suggestions are welcome.

I continue to collect cookbooks and enjoy writing about them. I love to cook. Preparing food, offering sustenance, for someone you care about is a powerful thing to do.

My categories for cookbooks - art, cozy, reading, etc. - may seem a bit odd, but they reflect my own taste in books. I have books that are no-frills cookbooks and I have cookbooks that I read like novels. There are cookbooks filled with great art and cookbooks that focus on art. I've used those sorts of divisions here.

I believe cookbooks should offer more than just lists of ingredients. We read cookbooks to learn about other people's ways with food. The recipes must be put into context. The best cookbooks offer a peek into someone else's kitchen and what they think about cooking.

Thanks for coming by. I hope you enjoy your visit.
